Pokeroot is the “mother” tangle pattern to the Pokeleaf pattern. The main difference between the two is the shape of the leaf part of the tangle.
Pokeroot looks more like a lollipop shape to me, or berries as others have described. Pokeleaf is shaped, uh, like a leaf.
Pokeroot is a Zentangle®-original tangle introduced by Maria Thomas.
“Pokeroot was one of our first tangles. It was inspired by a pokeroot plant growing in a vacant lot across from our home. Pokeroot is an unusual name for us to use for a tangle because it is named for what inspired its pattern. We usually choose names that don’t create a preconception of how a tangle should look,” writes Rick Roberts.

In this video, Maria demonstrates how to tangle Pokeleaf at 4:15, Pokeroot at 7:53, Rixty at 10:04, two versions of Flux at 14:30, Sampson at 19:19, Springkle at 22:36, and Verdigogh at 25:51.
