Our lovely tangle for your weekend explorations (and beyond), is Whisper from Dutch CZT Hilde van Ginhoven.
Whisper is Hilde’s third tangle on the site, in the past we’ve explored her Bolly Point and Spindle.
Hilde writes,
A new tangle has come to me and it was such a wonderful process. I never set out to design a new tangle, it just usually forms itself. … I was swirling and swirling with my pen and pencil and then suddenly it appeared in my head and all sorts of variations.
I love it when it happens like this because they joy of drawing something that makes me chuckle and laugh is the most endearing process in my journey. The very same happened with my very first tangle called Bolly Point which is created upon a very personal process. As it happens all of my tangles still create the same result: laugh & chuckle.
The name my new tangle is Whisper. This name came to me when I walked from my studio towards my kitchen. It was actually whispered to me, lol.
Whisper falls into the category of tangles ZentangleHQ recently began calling nomadz. On TanglePatterns this type of tangle is tagged as free-form (see the left sidebar under TANGLES BY TYPE) and I’m sticking with that so if you’re looking for nomadz have a look at free-form.
Nomadz are “Free form fragments that cluster together organically … [nomadz] shine alone but play well in groups.”
I used Hilde’s Renaissance tan tile as the model for my example of Whisper and found that starting with five orbs first then adding the curvy projections gave me the most satisfactory results. There’s often more than one way to construct a tangle and part of the fun for me is seeing what I can discover. As you’ll see in Hilde’s examples there’s a variety of fun ways to change the shapes in this one.
Hilde illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Whisper below where she includes ideas for variations and three lovely tiles featuring her tangle.
