Rick and Maria VideoIn June 2022 Rick and Maria introduced their foray into being guests on podcasts and YouTube channels:

Maria and I have been working on Zentangle for 19 years now. Our passion has never waned. Most of you reading this have experienced some of the benefits of the Zentangle Method™. As caretakers of the Zentangle Method, we are searching for new ways to spread the word to people who can benefit from it, particularly now with all that is going on.

On this page I plan to provide an index to the external podcasts and videos as they’re released so we have a central place of reference to locate them.

Here is Rick and Maria’s first podcast with NAEA and K12ArtChat hosts Laura and Matt: (1 hour 21 minutes). “They share their story about Zentangle’s creation, the experiences they’ve had with students in the classroom, and the work they are doing with Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) researching the benefits of art on mental health. ”

2. August 2022: Zentangle, Public Relations and Mental Health: A Love Story with Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas – “Our conversation partners were Kathie Taylor and Deb Page of In Plain Sight Marketing who, along with being PR practioners [sic], are Certified Zentangle Teachers (CZTs). This is a great example of the cross-discipline application of the Zentangle Method.” ~ Zentangle Blog

3. February 28, 2023: (52:17) Seattle CZTs Juliette Fiessinger and Kellie Fellinge – hosts of TanglePod podcasts – interview Rick and Maria, “to talk about creative inspiration and how Zentangle has impacted their lives. Hear inspirational stories of how students have reacted to learning the Zentangle Method, and some of the history behind this amazing, accessible artform.” Find the podcast here and the Zentangle post about it here.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.
