To celebrate their 20th Anniversary in 2024, Zentangle started a year-long journal project with monthly prompts.
The popularity of the 2024 journal project prompted Zentangle to continue during 2025 and another year-long project.
We received such wonderful feedback about the 2024 Journal Project that we decided to keep going this year. You can continue in your current journal or start a new one for the new year. Throughout the year, we will give you prompts and ideas to provoke thoughts, reflection and of course, tangling.
This page on TanglePatterns will be updated as the prompts appear, so bookmark it and return frequently to see EXCERPTS of the latest updates and keep track of the overall 2025 Journal Project chronology.
BE SURE TO VISIT THE PAGE ON ZENTANGLE.COM LINKED BELOW FOR THE FULL ENTRY FOR EACH PROMPT.
Zentangle’s 2025 Journal Project
Prompt #1:
Open to a new page in your journal and label it “2025.” Fill the page with the tangle of the year. Settle into the rhythm of take off and land and then use shading, embellishments and other tangles to bring huggins to life.
Prompt #2:
February may be a short month but in the Zentangle community, it is bursting at the seams with love, passion and creativity. We love to incorporate hearts into our Zentangle art, so we encourage you to pick a tangle that has orbs as a component and instead of using an orb, use a heart. Think tipple, purk, nipa, and huggins.
Prompt #3:
In the Month of May, we recognize the importance of mental health and well-being. … For this entry, we invite you to dedicate one page in your journal to the Bijou Be Well series.
Visit this page on TanglePatterns for the 2025 Mental Health Awareness Month 21-Day Challenge – Chronology.
Prompt #4:
As we wrap up, we invite you to find a new page in your journal, pick two of your favorite tangles from the 2025 Bijou Be Well series, and layer them in a new way. Step away from your “go-to” compilations and allow the tangles to playfully knit together.
Prompt #5:
In honor of our current Legends of Zentangle theme, “Strings” and our Tangle of the Year, huggins, we offer a new challenge. Take a page in your journal, and a pencil or pen, and draw the tangle huggins as proportionately large on the page as you can. Use the tangle as a string to “hug” other tangles.
Prompt #6:
For this journal prompt, I suggest you set aside your journal and pen for a moment. When you have the chance, close your eyes and mentally go through the 8 Steps of the Zentangle Method, just as you would on paper.
If coofia is brand new to you, study the step out for a little while and then close your eyes and do it in your head first. Then, bring pen to paper and explore this new tangle on a tile or in your journal.
Prompt #7: TBA
