At a substantial 1.5 pounds, this 144 page “inspirational sketch journal” measures 8.7 x 0.7 x 11.6 inches and is one of the most colorful titles on the Zentangle block.

Although it’s titled The Art of Zentangle, the book does not explain the Zentangle method and is by no means the “comprehensive introduction” the publisher claims.

While the reader does not learn the foundational Zentangle art form from this book, what The Art of Zentangle does is focus on applying patterns to lots of creative projects, guided by four very talented CZTs. Each of the artists has a colored section in the book with projects to inspire:

• Penny Raile’s yellow section is about whimsical tangling with creatures and other fantasy motifs
• Norma Burnell’s turquoise section features a hummingbird project and her ZIA fairies
• Margaret Bremner’s green section is about mandalas and has a step-by-step project to create your own
• Lara Williams’s purple section is about “tangling outside the box” and creating strings

The “inspirational sketch journal” has spaces throughout for you to draw in the book to practice copying the projects and a number of blank pages for your own creative contributions.

The Art of Zentangle is likely to “draw” many into the enjoyment of drawing and develop their confidence with its practical step-by-step Zentangle-inspired projects.
