Sampson is another of the earliest “official” tangle patterns, a Zentangle®-original.
From the beginnings of TanglePatterns in 2010 my example of Sampson was included in the scrolling bar of tangles across the top of the site but it didn’t have its own page because the steps had not been released publicly by Zentangle. Until now.
As part of the Twelve Days of Zentangle, 2018 Edition series, several of these “old” tangles that haven’t been publicly published before (although they have always been on “Linda’s List“) have been included in the series.
Sampson was deconstructed by one of Rick and Maria’s dearest friends, and also a Zentangle employee, Nancy Sampson. As some of you may know, Nancy tragically passed away before her time from ALS. (See Nancy’s Voice Box.)
In this Day 10 video starting at 14:43 Maria’s daughter and CZT Molly Hollibaugh demonstrates how to tangle Sampson.
NOTE: For future reference, the video segment for the other tangles included in the “Twelve Days of Zentangle” series can be located on each tangle’s page on TanglePatterns.
Day 10‘s tangles include Jonqal, Munchin, Centipede, ‘Nzeppel, and Sampson.

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
