Today’s Sweet Pea tangle is from California-based Japanese CZT Yoko Kageyama. A fun one for exploring this weekend!
Sweet Pea is her fourth on the site, so far we’ve explored Yoko’s August, Saturday, and Monster tangles.
Yoko writes,
I named this tangle “Sweet Pea” because peas climb up like a beanstalk (like this tangle) . This tangle reminds me of Sweet Pea.
I was actually coming up with different tangles, and as I tried to make it simpler to draw by anyone, I ended up with this design. I think everyone can draw this beanstalk-like-tangle with ease.
The base of this tangle can be drawn as a straight zigzag line or a wavy line. I like how the wavy base results in a very elegant look. Also, when the base line is longer, it will look more graceful, I believe.
Also, people can “close” the tangle at the end with vertical lines OR printemps and tipple, instead.
This square tan tile shows how this “Sweet Pea” could work like a string as well. This is another versatile tangle.
Draw large, and fill it with other tangles. In my tile, I included Garlic Cloves, Purk, Scena, and Jetties.
For my Sweet Pea example I used Yoko’s curvy version (see below) and left the connectors without the addition of Printemps or Tipple embellishments.
Yoko illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Sweet Pea below and illustrates two ways of connecting/closing the waves: either with straight strokes (Step 5), or using some b (Step 6). A bit of rounding and line weighting adds a finishing touch.
Here she shares her “wavy” version and illustrates two ways of connecting/closing the waves: either with straight strokes (Step 5) , or using a combination of Tipple and Printemps (Step 6). Her ZIA tile includes an example of embellishing the curves with other tangles.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

I must try this one.
Yes:) It’ll be easier than you think. Thank you so much.
I used to grow Sweet Peas in my garden long ago. These tangle reminded me of that time. I look forward to drawing this one layer this week. Right now I’m in the middle of moving. Maybe I’ll plant Sweet Peas in my new garden. Thanks you.
I have a sweet memory of Sweet Peas as well. I love their fragrance, too. Hope you would enjoy Sweet Peas again in your new garden. Good luck moving , and happy tangling 😉 Thank you!
