Hello my tangling friends, it’s so good to see you again! Welcome back for another week of creative tangles to explore.
Today’s pretty Florabella tangle is from California CZT Nancy Domnauer and it’s her fourth on the site.
Nancy introduces Florabella ,
This pattern evolved one day when I was trying to deconstruct another pattern. I realized that I didn’t get that pattern correct but that I made something new! I liked what I saw so I tangled it again and again in my notebook.
Florabella is an organic tangle pattern that combines the beauty of Flux, tethered (aka anchored) auras and the Hollibaugh technique.
The word flora refers to plant life. The name Florabella sounds like a combination of the words flora, beauty, Flux and aura. I thought the name was especially appropriate for this pattern.
This pattern bends, flows and fills areas nicely as it grows in an organic way. It’s a meditative pattern to tangle and it’s simple to learn.
Explore this pattern by adding more petal shapes to a single branch, always ‘drawing behind’. Allow your pen to wander on the paper as the Florabella pattern grows and sprouts any which way you like!
The Florabella pattern has many shading and tangleation possibilities. Experiment with shading the thin aura sections on the petals or shade certain petals that are ‘behind’ or ‘in front’ of the others. Play with inking in certain sections, adding orbs and your own tangleations. Enjoy!
Nancy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Florabella below and she includes three additional sweet Florabella example tiles.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Simple and pretty. With some great examples that show its possibilities for organic development, linear grouping or filling in broad directions.
Thank you, Tomas. Enjoy the Florabella pattern and all of the ways it organically grows! Happy tangling! Nancy
Thanks, Nancy, for a delightful tangle! I enjoyed learning it, and incorporated it immediately into a piece I’m working on. Also did one in my workbook, filling in the open spaces with a turquoise Gelly Roll metallic pen, and it was terrific. It’s a great start to my week when I can do a tangle without struggling, so I very much appreciate your work.
Cheers-
Susi
