Hollibaugh was created by Maria Thomas’s daughter Molly Hollibaugh, who is also a CZT®.
Hollibaugh is pronounced “haul’-a’-baw” (source: Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1).
This tangle starts in the foreground and works toward the background by drawing subsequent lines behind the first lines you’ve drawn, Zentangle®’s classic “drawing behind” technique.
Hollibaugh is a great tangle pattern with lots of potential for variants in lines, shading, and shapes used in the “background”.
CZT® Sandy Bartholomew shows us how to draw Hollibaugh here.
For the first sighting of Hollibaugh drawn with curved strokes trailing off or anchoring to the side of the tile, see Maria’s Zentangle here. Some have since claimed this curved Hollibaugh technique/variation as theirs, but for the record it began with Maria. Molly also uses this technique in a section of the 6th tile of her ensemble here.
