Welcome back to TanglePatterns for your Friday tangle inspiration 🙂
At last the Labor Day long weekend is upon us bringing with it the gentle winding down of Summer and pleasant anticipation of the beginning of Fall. My favorite season of the year.
Today Japanese CZT Yuriko Kagitani is back with us to share her lovely grid-based tangle, Yurin. This is her ninth tangle on the site, be sure to check them all out.
Yuriko shares her inspiration for Yurin and explains the meaning of its name:
My name, Yuriko, includes the Japanese character for lily. My grandfather gave me this name after seeing lilies glowing beautifully in the mountains. I’m so happy that the people I’ve met through Zentangle call me by my name. It has made me love my name even more.
For several years, I had been trying to grow lilies, and this year they finally bloomed. Watching them bloom one after another inspired this tangle.
This tangle was inspired by the gentle rhythm of lily petals, the pleasant fragrance of lilies, and their vitality.
The name Yurin combines “Yuri” (lily) and “Rin,” a Japanese word that suggests dignity, elegance, and quiet strength.
I hope many people will enjoy drawing this tangle.
I’d also like to add that, rather than representing or recreating the flower itself, my hope was that the gentle rhythm, graceful presence, and vitality of lilies would be reflected in this tangle.
