’Nzeppel is another curvy tangle pattern that gives me the yips even though it’s based on a grid that I seem to favor. Variants can include shading and adding solid areas where the spirit takes you.
’Nzeppel is a Zentangle®-original tangle designed by Maria Thomas. The link to her illustrated instructions for drawing ’Nzeppel is here.
The trick to ’Nzeppel is to draw over (retrace/restate) the original grid lines until you get to the corners when you’re adding the final steps.

I love this one. At first I thought it wasn’t going to work since some comments I’ve read elsewhere made it seem diffcult to draw, but I think it’s actually a very forgiving tangle. At first it may not look like it’s going to come out right, but when it’s completed its overall effect is awesome. It looks very intricate and difficult. My 9 year old couldn’t believe I drew it.
What is a tag and how do I use, them
Hi Barbara, tags are a type of keyword that link similar patterns together and also displays other tangles by the same artist. Check out this post for an explanation of how to use tags on the site: How to draw ORGANIC. And do let me know if you have any more questions, I’m happy to clarify 🙂
Really like this one. See it being used as a filler and also the central focus.
One of my favorites!
CZT Margaret Bremner added ’Nzeppel to her “And then some” series of posts, link added above.
In Zentangle’s “21 Days of Bijouisms” series honoring Mental Health Awareness Month, today’s bijouism is Create and today’s tangle is ‘Nzeppel.
