Yesterday, August 24th, was the 25th “anniversary” of Hurricane Andrew here in South Florida. Robert and I have such vivid memories of that very scary time and evacuating our home not knowing whether it would be there when/if we returned. We were fortunate, many many thousands were not. As I said, vivid memories.
And 12 years ago today Hurricane Katrina struck the Fort Lauderdale area of South Florida before crossing over the state, exiting Florida Bay and traveling north in the Gulf and on to wreak major havoc on New Orleans.
Today our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in coastal Texas and the surrounding states as the very dangerous Hurricane Harvey makes landfall late tonight and the early morning hours around Corpus Christi.
Estimates of an historic 30+ inches of rain and a 12-foot storm surge together with powerful storm-force winds make this such a terrifying and devastating prospect. The storm’s path is pretty horrifying itself, as it is predicted to go inland to San Antonio then come back out into the Gulf and travel East to make landfall again at Houston.

Remember that Zentangle strings are always drawn freehand in pencil so that they magically disappear when you’ve finished tangling the tile.
A string is a simple device to “divide your drawing surface into sections to be filled with tangles“.
In the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1 there is an entire section devoted to Strings which in part explains:
“As you tangle, your strings disappear as if by magic. This adds to the charm and unified appearance of your completed art. If you had used a pen to draw your string, you would still see the initial sectioning in your completed creation.“
Strings are not intended to be the focal point of your tile.
More String advice from The Book of Zentangle:
“A string is a useful reference, but it is not an impenetrable barrier. Practice going outside your string. It will help increase your ability to think outside the box.“

Love these Zentangles. I would love to subscribe and get a kit, but a fixed income is a pain. I really enjoy drawing and “monkeying around” with them. Thanks for a lovely, stimulating hobby.

I’m glad this hurricane is missing you there in Florida. I always get concerned about those when they come too close to you. Luckily we don’t have those here in California……..yet! :-0 I just wonder how they can tell it is going to go inland a bit and then turn back into the Gulf and come to land again a bit further up the coast. I sure hope it decides to just go play itself out really fast. Here’s to wishing everyone well.
