By now we’ve come to expect new and unusual tangle patterns from Taiwan CZT Damy Teng. Most recently she shared here D’rua tangle with us and it’s a popular one.
Xin is another lovely one of hers inspired by the Zentangle®-original Shattuck.
Ribbon-style tangles such as Xin can almost always be drawn side-by-side to fill a section of your Zentangle tile very nicely.
If you find you’re having “issues” drawing the strokes in Step 2 at a consistent angle to produce even-sized triangles, try drawing opposing triangles instead – just be sure to leave enough space between them to include the center strokes.
Damy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Xin below. In her steps she shows a variation in Step 6 where a 4th stroke is drawn in Step 2 instead of three, then solid inking with sparkle was added to the middle space.
Damy includes Shattuck in the center ribbon in her completed Zentangle. In her tile she uses slightly curved strokes to create Xin and together with a touch of shading you get a puffy convex-looking result. Very nice.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity for you to enjoy.

So lovely, Damy! You always inspire me to return to the basics, consider tangleations and see what happens. Thank you for the time you spend and the creativity you apply to the tangles you send to Linda for her publishing choices! The Zentangle world is much richer because of you both. <3
