Tangle Refresher 170 – Featuring a random string, plus how to draw Drawings, Yam-it, Interlude, W3, A-dalpha

Tangle Refresher!Welcome to 2018 my tangling friends!

I hope everyone is safe and warm and not too badly affected by the horrible conditions of Winter Storm Grayson. Here in South Florida we awoke to freezing temperatures yesterday and today, quite a shock to our warm-weather bodies I’ll tell ya. Had to dig out a pair of socks!

“As we speak”, I’m working away on getting the 2018 Edition of my TanglePatterns.com TANGLE GUIDE ready for you. I’m aiming to have it available a week from today [Friday, January 12th]. In the meantime I couldn’t let this week go by without dropping in to say “Hi!” and sharing a little Zentangle® inspiration to get you going again. Enjoy!

Many tanglers like to use these biweekly Tangle Refreshers as their Zentangle challenge-of-the-day and today’s “Buried Treasure” tangles are located after today’s String.

TanglePatterns.com STRINGS

There are 250 TanglePatterns Strings on the site, enough to last you a lifetime together with the site’s 1,000+ tangles. You can easily find all 250 strings by clicking on STRINGS in the pink alphabetic tangle menu bar. And you can easily download them all instantly to have them at your fingertips and save yourself a bunch of time by purchasing a TanglePatterns.com STRING GUIDE from the STORE > EBOOKS page. (There are 5 volumes in the TanglePatterns.com STRING GUIDE set, 50 strings in each.)

Using the RANDOM SELECTOR in the left sidebar (desktop version of the site) this TanglePatterns String was selected – either to go with today’s Buried Treasure or just to use as a starting point for your day’s tangling.

Think of this as your tangle Challenge, if you’re so inclined. TanglePatterns String 037 is from CZT Sandy Hunter and was originally posted here.

Remember that Zentangle strings are always drawn freehand in pencil so that they magically disappear when you’ve finished tangling the tile.

A string is a simple device to “divide your drawing surface into sections to be filled with tangles“.

In the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1 there is an entire section devoted to Strings which in part explains:

As you tangle, your strings disappear as if by magic. This adds to the charm and unified appearance of your completed art. If you had used a pen to draw your string, you would still see the initial sectioning in your completed creation.

Strings are not intended to be the focal point of your tile.

More String advice from The Book of Zentangle:

A string is a useful reference, but it is not an impenetrable barrier. Practice going outside your string. It will help increase your ability to think outside the box.

The Tangle Refresher series, aka Buried Treasure, spotlights hidden tangle gems from the past. It can remind you of tangles you might not have used for a while or introduce you to some you haven’t come across yet.

Here are five more tangle pattern gems and a Tangle Refresher from a year (or two) ago for your tangling pleasure. Remember to check out the “More Good Stuff” links below too.

BTW as you visit these tangles please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. And please share a link to your favorite tangles with your followers on all your social media. Thanks!

Zenful tangling!

And a Happy 2018 to you too, Linda. Sounds like you’re having to pull out your clothes that you take with you to Canada. I’ll bet you’re glad you have them too. 😀 Unbelievable weather. So glad you’re doing okay. After a December with only .o1 inches of rain all month we’re finally getting some measurable rain here in Northern California.

I’m wishing all you tanglers many peaceful hours of tangling while you’re staying inside out of the below zero freezing weather. May you all have a wonderful 2018.
