Zentangle® is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns we call tangles. And anyone can do it!

If you can hold a pen and make these five simple elemental strokes — a dot, a straight(-ish) line, a C, an S, and an orb or circle — you too can create beautiful Zentangle art. And we’re going to show you how — for free! Get ready to discover the creative artist within you.
Greetings! I’m Linda Farmer, a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT®). TanglePatterns.com was created over a decade ago in May of 2010 to serve and network the Zentangle community with new tangles (patterns) and great creative resources.
A very warm welcome to you, you are certainly among friends. Tanglers are a wonderful, generous and sharing community. I hope you enjoy the site and are inspired by the tangles and many useful resources you find here. Please feel free to add your thoughts in the comments on any page and join in the community.
In my view Zentangle has changed the landscape of the art world by making it inclusive for anyone who can pick up a pen to experience the personal joy of creativity and artful self expression.
ABOUT ZENTANGLE: For a jump-start I highly recommend this excellent free video series for beginners by Zentangle founders Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, it guides you through the basics of the Zentangle Method™ while you tangle and learn at the same time.
If you are new to the Zentangle art form, I suggest first you visit the ZENTANGLES > WHAT IS A ZENTANGLE page on the menu bar at the top of every page to get an idea of the focus of TanglePatterns.
HOW TO NAVIGATE THIS SITE: Over the years TanglePatterns.com has grown considerably and at first glance can look overwhelming. But fear not! Visit the ABOUT > HOW TO USE THIS SITE page on the top menu bar for an excellent video tutorial showing how to use the site as well as pointing out lots of useful features.
Here’s another resource that’s handy for newcomers — Exploring TanglePatterns. Be sure to check out the rest of the pages on the top menu bar — there’s a wealth of information there you’ll want to see. Also, don’t miss the TUTORIALS tab on the pink alphabetic tangles menu bar.

“Absolutely the best Zentangle Book yet! As an accomplished artist I used to think I did not need instruction on this art form. How wrong I was! My tangling improved by leaps and bounds after reading this book.
If you think you have Zentangle down then you need this book more than ever!” ~ Kris H
November 1st, 2025
Hello my tangling friends, I’m here to ask for your help to ensure TanglePatterns keeps going for another Zen-ful creative year.
Of course I want to begin this fundraising effort for TanglePatterns with a huge, heartfelt “THANK YOU” to its kind and cherished patrons.
You’ve heard me say it before, and it’s no less true: I love you guys! You are my invaluable TanglePatterns Angels. With your help I’ve been able to keep this resource free and available for more than 15 years. But I simply couldn’t continue to do this and keep up the site’s level of service without your loyal and amazing support. I appreciate you so much and I give thanks for you each and every day as we take this wonderful Zentangle® journey together.
Times are challenging for a lot of us as the costs of just about everything continue to rise. Understandably, the site’s operating costs [explained here] also increase every year and I count on the Zentangle community’s financial assistance to help keep it going.
Donations are gratefully received throughout the year but this crucial fundraising campaign each November lets me know if I can pay the bills for the coming year. Your donation now helps underwrite the operating costs of running the website and keeps this one-of-a-kind Zentangle resource going for another inspirational year. Your donation is crucial to the sustainability of TanglePatterns.com and now is the time to act.
While I invest all my time and energy in offering sparks for your creative imagination and it’s truly my privilege and pleasure to do so, it’s a full-time endeavor keeping the content coming. And it’s just me folks, I have no crew. All I ask today is for you to invest a little to help me continue to keep TanglePatterns online and functioning smoothly for all of us.
Please, will YOU help now? Will you too become a TanglePatterns Angel? It only takes a minute. Your contribution makes a difference and is deeply appreciated, not only by me but also by our tangling friends who aren’t in a position to help financially and depend on this resource for their mental health. Thank you from the bottom of my grateful heart.

Click the secure button below and make your contribution to help keep TanglePatterns available to you for another year.
You don’t have to open an account to use PayPal AND it is a very secure platform. When you click the button and update your cart with your contribution, you are given the option of using PayPal or your debit or credit card (if you don’t see the options immediately, scroll down the page). There is also a checkbox to make your contribution an automatic monthly payment if you so wish.
Prefer to contribute by mail? (Please include your email address so I can acknowledge your gift.)
Here’s my mailing address (also found at the bottom of every page): Linda Farmer, TanglePatterns.com, PO Box 880386, Port St Lucie FL 34988.
