On Thursday, May 11th, Zentangle® launched a 21-Day series to honor Mental Health Awareness month.
As Wikipedia tells us:
Mental Health Awareness Month began in the United States in 1949 and was started by the Mental Health America (MHA) organization (then known as the National Association for Mental Health).
The Zentangle newsletter notes:
This year, as we considered how we would honor the importance of this month, Bijou reminded us all of his wise Bijouisms, which serve as gentle reminders for us in our Zentangle practice and in life.
Beginning May 11th, we are embarking on a 21 day challenge where we will delve into one Bijouism and one tangle on a Bijou tile each day. We invite you to find 15-20 minutes each day to tangle along with us, Bijou, and the Zentangle Community, allowing your pen to soothe your soul.
…. During this exploration, we will be using 21 Bijou tiles and a variety of tools. Bijou has suggested we offer special tangling tool bundles in celebration of this project.
There are 21 Zentangle bijouisms so this 21-day series from Zentangle features a bijouism-a-day paired with a tangle-a-day.
As each day’s bijouism and tangle video is released, they will be added to this page with a link to Zentangle’s YouTube video.
AND the full video will also be added to that day’s selected tangle’s page on TanglePatterns.

Excerpt of SERIES TIPS FROM ZENTANGLE
Tile or tangling surface: In each video we will be using a Bijou tile. We will alternate demonstrating on different surfaces each day. At the end of each video, you will see examples of the same tangle done on other surfaces. We invite you to use your choice of a Bijou tile or feel free to use something else. You can easily do this same lesson on a 3.5” square tile if you like a little more space, or you could make a string with lots of spaces on an Opus or the like, or maybe you have a special journal you want to fill with the tangles. Whatever you choose, we are thrilled to have you tangling along.
The Audio: We talked to Bijou and he suggested we do silent tangling for this particular series. We agreed that would be a nice change. So, the audio will be very simplified for these lessons. You will hear a little music at the beginning and at the end, but the rest is limited to the sounds of the pens and pencils working on the tiles. Enjoy the quiet or put on your own calming music.
The Videos: Each video and lesson is between 10 to 20 minutes long. They are designed to be short, simple, and full of Bijou love. The videos are not sequential so feel free to enjoy as many as you want in any order. In other words, do not sweat it if you miss one.

What a wonderful series! I think this one is the best yet. That it honors mental health awareness is just that much more awesome!
The Bijou are small and easy to complete, I enjoy the tangles, it helps me zone out, thanks for honoring all of us in keeping top of mind mental health awareness.
These are the perfect size, and tangles for this. I have found myself doing something different with the “string”, in that I am more framing a workplace on the tile. Also, since these are very familiar tangles, I have added some “craziness” to each tile with a tweak to the pattern or a little colour! WHAT FUN IS ALL THIS!
One thing I find is I am missing the great commentaries I have come to expect from these videos, but at the same time, the au Naturel format is growing on me!
GREAT JOB, FOLKS!
Linda – thank you for putting this page together and adding to it each day as the series runs! It’s time and energy on your end and much appreciated <3 I find it enjoyable being able to come here and have all the daily videos lined up and ready.
And thanks for also adding the videos to each of the selected tangle pages!
The “Be Well” Series is fantastic! Starting with the most basic tangles on the Bijou tile is perfect for reminding us how great the first ones we learned can be—we tend to think because we know them that they aren’t as exciting, but I’m finding that they ARE like a old friend.
Linda, thank you for compiling all of these in one place. Your work on the Tangle Patterns website is greatly appreciated. It is my favorite Zentangle source! ???
Dear Linda, You do such incredible work for the Zentangle world – thank you so much!
🙂 Thanks!
