How to draw BARABOO

Baraboo is one from a recent browse through the submission archives and it’s from Indiana CZT Lara Williams. This makes her sixth tangle on the site and while I’m rather fond of the whimsical Ojo, be sure to check out the rest of her deconstructions.

Lara writes,

I never thought I would come up with a grid pattern … I figured they were so abundant that there weren’t any possible new ones.

It goes to show that the world is an amazing place and new possibilities are always around the corner or in the next carpet pattern you happen to see.

Lara posted Baraboo almost exactly 14 years ago in October 2012, and today we have over 600! regular grid-based tangles we’ve explored since then — not to mention all the tangles formed on the other types of grids. There’s definitely an abundance of new grid tangle ideas around the corner and I look foward to seeing yours 🙂

While it may look complicated, Baraboo is constructed with simple repetitive strokes that are fun and easy. Remember to turn your tile so your hand is always in the same comfortable position. There are lots of ways to embellish Baraboo with ink and graphite fills and/or color and each changes the overall look of the tangle. Have fun playing with this one!

Lara illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Baraboo here on her blog.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Any republication or reposting of these images is expressly prohibited. 6. What Makes a Zentangle tangle? A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle. Patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles, and tangles never start with pencil planning.
