How to draw MOOKARY

Greetings y’all!

We’ve got a bonus tangle today because I wanted to squeeze in an extra heart-ish tangle before the last one tomorrow on Valentine’s Day.

Mookary is from Japanese CZT Etuko Tani and her second on the site. Recently we explored her sweet Lorp tangle.

Etuko shares this ZIA Valentine card her daughter created while they were tangling online together.

We have a common hobby: Zentangle®. Ever since she was a student, we have been connecting and tangling online. She’s now a working adult and busy. It takes about 6 hours by train, plane, and train, so she can only come home about once a year.

We draw inspiration from the works of other tanglers around the world. Sometimes our hands stop as we engage in idle chitchat, but it is also an enjoyable moment. 

Etuko introduces Mookary and share some tips on tangling it.

I have loved the mooka tangle since I first encountered Zentangle, and have drawn many of them.

If you draw the head of the mooka like a bean sprout, it looks stylish, and if you draw it round, it looks cute.

I came up with a new tangle based on that favorite mooka. The name is Mookary.

Draw a C-curve on both sides of the “Mooka”axis, and draw a small mooka in the space created.

In the opposite space, draw a tangle of your choice. Of course, you can leave the space as it is.

Etuko illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Mookary below where she combines it on a beautiful Renaissance Tan tile with the Zentangle-originals Diva Dance, Pokeleaf, Tipple, Shattuck, Tripoli and Hollibaugh.
