Here’s a heart-like tangle without actually drawing hearts.
That’s what CZT Mina Hsiao has deconstructed in her 2SS2 tangle, “using one of the five elemental strokes. (S)“. Earlier this month Mina shared her 2-S tangle with us which has a similar approach that also produces heart-shapes. Girl’s on a roll!
2SS2 was inspired by this wrought iron railing Mina photographed so she could come up with the steps for drawing it as a tangle.
For my example of 2SS2 I used back-to-back columns and rows for an all-over fill pattern and a touch of graphite to highlight the tiny heart-like shapes. Here Mina illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing 2SS2 with a little Henna Drum flourish.
And features 2SS2 here in a Zentangle tile together with her 2-S tangle.
In her third example Mina uses auras with 2SS2 to create a lovely decorative design.

Oh my, this is absolutely stunning. I need to practice more so that I’ll be able to combine tangles as well as everyone on this page does.
Simply elegant! I also like that you included your inspiration photo! Great work, again Mina!
Stunning and very well done. Isn’t it fun to look at ironwork and suddenly you see a Tangle?!!!
Thanks so much for sharing your inspiration and talent. Lots of practicing to do to come up to your level, but the journey is as much fun as the arrival.
God bless,
Phyllis

Just wow! So many variations possible from whimsical to elegant to somber. Wow.
Nice job, thanks!
I love these patterns! Everyone in my family is receiving hand made Valentines this year! Thank You
Lucky family! If you haven’t seen it already, you might like to check out this tangle to see a video about making memorable “explosion” cards using a Turkish Map Fold.
And also a reminder to click the “hearts” tag to find more heart-like tangles 🙂
Thanks for the tutorial, Linda! You are my enabler!
A beautiful new tangle! What a creative difference offsetting the curves by just a bit makes.
I love S’s! Not surprising I guess, as I have a couple in my name! This one will need a fair bit of practice I think, as putting S’s back to back, it always looks good if they are the same size and shape, but I love patterns with a little challenge, ‘cos’ it makes me feel so great when I master a shape!
Thanks Mina for sharing such a pretty design, and Linda, for putting it “out there” for all of us to share…..
Beautiful!
I love the new tangle. It made me take notice of a similar design on my fireplace screen. Now to try to deconstruct it. Your tangle is a big help in figuring it out. Thanks!
Thanks for your pattern. I especially like the last example, making a beautiful figure from the pattern.
Guess I should start on Valentine cards!
