Continuing our Valentine’s Day theme this week, Heart Box is another “super easy” heart pattern by Aussie Helen Williams.
Last year around this time, Helen wrote that she immersed herself in hearts and came up with this one and several others for you to enjoy.
Interestingly, you don’t actually draw a heart shape for this pattern. You start with a simple grid, add alternating regular and reversed number 3-shapes, add a little solid fill and maybe a bit of shading — et voilà. The lovely Heart Box. Very economical.
Helen illustrated the step-by-step instructions for drawing Heart Box here on her blog but her blog has since been retired and he has graciously given me permission to include her original image here on TanglePatterns . Helen included two other patterns on that page Heart Divided and two versions of Heart S. And as always, her beautiful examples to emulate.
Yesterday the host of the popular PBS Scrapbook Soup TV program and multimedia artist Julie Fei-Fan Balzer posted a fun tutorial on her blog with a video on how to make an “Explosion” card for Valentine’s Day featuring handmade stamps and the “Turkish Map Fold” technique.
Combine Julie’s tutorial with a piece of your Zentangle-inspired art and you can make a truly memorable card to give someone special, whether for Valentine’s Day — or any occasion calling for a greeting card. Here’s Julie’s video …
Here’s the link to Julie’s post where she also includes a link to her favorite tutorial for the Turkish Map Fold.

I love Helen’s beautiful tangles. Thank you for another “Heart” tangle.
Linda, thank you so much for that video on how to do the Turkish Map Fold. Wouldn’t this just be so great with some heart tangles and a heart in the center? 😀 Love it.
Wow!!! Two great videos for the fabulously-free price of one!! Thank you Linda! And thank you Helen for this very cool and fun-to-draw tangle. 🙂 I am looking forward to following Julie’s instructions, using my own ZIA, and sending some original love to my very favorite people. (Hmmmmm … a have several classes to teach before Valentine’s Day … who needs sleep anyway??)
