How to draw HEART S

Zentangle pattern: Heart S. Image © Linda Farmer and All rights reserved. It’s Labor Day long weekend here in North America and Sunday is Father’s Day down under. Happy weekend wishes everyone!

Wrapping up our week of tangles formed with S-strokes, today’s Heart S is an elegant tangle from Aussie tangler Helen Williams. Helen created Heart S a while ago in a Valentine’s-related feast of heart-based tangles.

Heart S appears on the same page as Heart Box which is already in our library and Heart Divided. Heart Divided is also coming up next today on TanglePatterns so don’t miss it!

Heart S is based on back-to-back, alternating S-shapes. Helen provides two versions which she calls Heart S (Kick), and Heart S (No Kick). The “Kicks” she refers to are the parts of a typeface we know as serifs, the No Kick version uses a Sans Serif S and that’s the version I used for my example here.

Helen illustrates the original step-by-step instructions for drawing Heart S here on her blog. She recently added this video demonstrating both versions of her tangle. Helen’s examples are considerably larger size than Zentangle® art but they always downsize to tile-size very nicely. Update February 2020: Helen has recently retired from her blog and has removed much of its content withe the exception of the tangles and their steps. In the process a couple of her tangles were removed by accident and Helen generously gave me permission to add her images to TanglePatterns for your convenience.
