Very fitting for the weather around the nation this week, Snowflower is a new tangle from Ohio CZT Cynthia Gannon.
Cynthia writes,
“Snowflakes fascinate me. And so do flowers. To me, their beauty comes from the intricacy and regularity of their structure.
When my sister and I were looking for cut-out snowflake patterns for her students to make, this pattern started to take shape in my mind. When I got a chance to sit down and try it out, I thought it would be pretty done randomly on the tile.
I found, though, that when put into a grid, other patterns started to emerge, as well. Intricacy and regularity – how about that!”
In addition to the simple elegance of Cynthia’s lacy version with just a touch of shading, the open spaces of Snowflower invites various solid fills with ink and graphite. To see the difference it makes to use a tortillion/paper stump to smooth out graphite, visit Cynthia’s Chi tangle.
Cynthia illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Snowflower below and she features it in a very simple monotangle. As she points out, remember (almost always) to turn your tile.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity for you to enjoy.

Hi, thank you so much for this tangle. I am making tangles for my family from their names, river, rain, Katie lauren, and so on my daughter’s name is Cynthea and she loves snow so I will be making this one for her. Thank you again so much fun and relaxation in tangles.
I so appreciate everyone that is sharing their talent. I have always created things but am just now, at age 58, trying to draw. Your instructions have helped me so much!
