How to draw SPAANDERS

Zentangle pattern: SpaandersThis is such a cool looking tangle pattern and great fun to draw. Spaanders, Mariët Lustenhouwer tells us, is the Dutch word for woodchips. It reminds me of matchsticks, or even pick-up-sticks.

This one should have you turning your tile a lot! It also helps to make sure the end of each “matchstick” finishes on a bit of an angle to each other to get the random effect or you will get parallel and perpendicular lines as I did in the lower right of this example.

Mariët illustrates the steps for drawing Spaanders, here and uses it in a sweet colored Zentangle®-inspired piece here. Do have a look at some of the other pieces in her photostream – beautiful artwork.

Check out the tag marietl for more of Mariët’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
