How to draw BALES

tangle pattern - BALESBales is a fun tangle pattern to draw and uses a grid to get started.

The potential changes possible with this basic pattern are almost mind-boggling. Variants include adding different shapes between the “flowers” (dots, circles, diamonds, etc.), shading, and filling in shapes as the pattern takes form.

The Official Zentangle® instructions of this original tangle by Maria Thomas are here. Maria also shows how using some of the variants mentioned above change the look of this pattern.

Sandy Bartholomew provides her instructions and insights about drawing Bales here.

Hi Linda, I’ve just started drawing the tangles from the guide into my own notebook and initially looked at this one with apprehension as I thought I was going to have to draw what looks like almost perfect circles. However, I was amazed when I saw how simple it really is after following the link. I love this one and am using it to fill all the blank spaces in my sketch pad!
