Trubine is a cool geometric tangle to explore from New York CZT Susan Pundt. Her first tangle, Flowervine is a popular one on the site.
Since sharing PS23 with us Susan has become a Certified Zentangle Teacher.
After tangling for more than half a dozen years, I finally got myself to RI last fall and became a CZT. It was a wonderful experience and now many more possibilities are open to me.
This pattern snuck up on me while I was poking at Cubine the other day. The middle reminds me of Jane Monk’s Trimonds pattern, but that one was developed differently, as you can see…. perhaps this is a 2nd cousin twice removed.
This pattern can be done with any figure with 3 sides…. equilateral or straight or not…. singly, in a cluster at random, in a line, circle, or grid.
Variations can be made by changing the stripes for some angled differently, with other embellishment, or adding nothing to one or more of the outsides.
The lines are very meditative, though, and I highly recommend them. I found turning my tile (which I always seem to be doing) very helpful.
As Susan suggests we can explore changing the fills and the outer edge stripes so for the version on the right I tried some vertical, mildly curved strokes using the same configuration of triangles I used for my main example.
Susan illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Trubine below.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your comment helps motivate them to continue to share!

I like your nice 3D tangle very much, Trubine opens many new possibilities. Thank you very much!
Thank you,Ria. It has been quite handy.
Susan, this is a great tangle. I’m looking forward to playing with it. Thank you for sharing it!
Debra, thank you so much! Looking forward to your take on it.
Hello Linda!
This isn’t a comment on any one tangle, but a huge THANK YOU for all the work you do to give us “zen-thusiasts” one wonderful site to go to in order to get all the official Zentangle patterns that Rick and Maria put out for public use. I’m so glad to not have to go hunting through the endless world of the Web to find patterns, and I probably am speaking for all your grateful users when I say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! 😀
Thank you, too, for so many other things you include on your site, such as the excellent information regarding copyrights and how to avoid infringement, and what an artist can and cannot do with regard to using tangles in our own work. That you take so much time to do all this is appreciated far more than mere words can express 🙂
Thank you so much for your lovely support, Joyce. MOST appreciated!! 🙂
Joyce said it, Linda! Your wonderful lists, patterns, and links are such a valuable resource.
Yes, Joyce said how I feel about your site, too!
Susan, thank you for your tangles, including Trubines! This looks like a lot of fun. The first tile that Linda shows – the curvy one, reminds me of orchestral harps! – especially the top row. I love Cubine, so I think I will love Trubines, too! Thanks for the tangles, and for your posts on some of the Zentangle-related Facebook pages we are both on, too!
Thanks, Dessie. Appreciate it.
Great one Susan, 8nlook forward to giv8n* it a try…….or should I say ‘tri’??
Very three-dimentional!
Thank you Sue…clever girl.
So nice love this tangle
Thank you, Rebecca.
