The lovely Flowervine tangle pattern is from Susan Pundt of Bridgeport, NY. Susan is CZT Kelley Kelly’s mother.
Flowervine makes a nice airy change from the “solidity” of the grid-based tangles we’ve had recently. It combines rice shapes, S-shape curves and leaf shapes, making a very pretty tangle. The only suggestion I’d offer is to be sure you allow enough space between your rice shapes in Step 1 to allow room for the parallel S-curves in Steps 2 and 3.
Susan writes,
“My daughter Kelley and a couple of ladies in the beginners’ trio of classes with me last fall, encouraged me to send this to you … I haven’t yet come across any particular patterns that I remember being an influence. I must confess that Kel has me hooked on tangling and I do love figuring out the new and new-to-me patterns. I have no noticable artistic talent and am delighted, at age 72, to find something that I can actually approximate doing, however peculiarly.
We couldn’t know, by the way, that when we named her Kelley (my maiden name) that she would meet and marry John Kelly and thus acquire a distinctive monicker.
I have been enjoying the 2013 Tangle Guide that you publish and the frequent updates. Well worth the small fee.“
Thanks so much for the plug and the pattern, Susan! 🙂
Susan illustrates the steps for drawing Flowervine below and includes a couple of suggested variations.

What an interesting tangle — interwoven ropes and flowers. I know I’ll be using this one. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for sharing this tangle. It is very pretty and easy to do.
Thank you for sharing your talent, Susan (a.k.a. Kelley’s mom). I think you found your artistic talent with Zentangle! Congratulations on your first published tangle! We are looking forward to many more to come.
Great tangle pattern! I know that this one can be used as a border but also use within a Zentangle Art Drawing too. Thanks for sharing!!!!
How nice! I like how one can stop at just about any point & still have a Finished tangle. Great job.
I love these simple step by step directions….and the Flowervine is beautiful!
What a beautiful design. Would look lovely as a border on a card. Excellent.
What a pretty tangle. I would suggest that the each new step be done in red ink, though, to make it easier to see. Thank you for sharing.
OH OH, I love this tangle. Simple and easy steps. I always have trouble with “ribbon” type tangles and yours was so very easy. Thank you!
Lovely tangle! I am anxious to try it. Thank you for sharing!
