Earjool is our easy Monday tangle from California CZT Katy Kehoe.
Katy recently shared her Mosi and Mositoo tangles with us.
With Spring just around the corner, today we present: Earjool. A tangleation of the Zentangle®-original Printemps, Earjool is a fun way to use Printemps in the form of a single motif.
You can play with it in a free-form fashion, varying its scale and placement, and it also looks good repeated in a regular grid-style placement with or without the lines and/or spaces between. The colorists in the crowd will also have fun with Earjool.
Katy writes that Earjool was inspired by a pair of earrings,
I gravitate to tangles that are not too complicated so I can truly relax and lose myself in the tangling.
I love spirals and can hardly do a tile without at least one spiral somewhere.
Katy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Earjool below where she features it in a lovely Zentangle tile with Jenna Black’s Zenjellies.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. What a fun and versatile tangleation! Can’t wait to try it. 🙂 Your tile is awesome, btw.
Thanks Wonton! I hope u enjoy drawing the tangle!
Very decorative….a nicely detailed tangle to add on to something else! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Len! Yes, it’s a good secondary pattern. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks Katy for sharing another pattern. I am always looking for filler patterns other than the usual Tipple and plain ol’ Printemps. With its simplicity, this one is a joy to draw!
Yay Liza! I’m so glad you’re feeling the easy vibe. I hope you enjoy adding it to a tile.
YAY! HURRAY! Another new pattern that I can draw without messing it up! I so much enjoy drawing tangles, but when I constantly mess up patterns (due to how my eyes see one thing, but my mind and hand collaborate to draw another 🙂 ), it becomes somewhat discouraging. This is the second pattern in just five weeks that I’ve been able to draw without my thought processes derailing it, and I’m a very happy camper for that (it doesn’t take much to make me happy, obviously).
Nothing makes me happier than knowing my campers are having fun 🙂
Thanks Joyce! We are on the same wavelength! I like patterns to be easy enough to draw without having to constantly reference a step out. It’s nice to have easy go-to patterns. Enjoy!!
I like it! Thanks!
Thanks Joan 🙂
Thanks for an easy to do fill pattern. Will love it.
Thanks Sue Leslie!
