Hello my tangling friends and welcome back for our last Monday tangle of the year.
Christmas and Hanukkah are now but a few days away and before you know it we’ll all be ushering in 2025 and a whole new year of tangle inspiration. But there’s still a few days left in this one … 🙂
Buda-Knot is an easy structured ribbon-style tangle and it’s from Australian CZT Heidi Froelich. Earlier this year Heidi shared her sweet Bottle Brush tangle with us.
Heidi shares her inspiration for Buda-Knot:
I was recently in Budapest on a tour and saw this brilliant Greek-like pattern on many of the public buildings on the Buda side of the [Danube] river. I was on a bus and by the time I thought about taking a photo of the pattern, I had gone past them. All I had was memory. I’ll have to go back to Budapest one day to see how I went but I deconstructed what I thought I’d seen with this pattern.
It looks complicated but there are 3 simple steps.
I see it as mostly a ribbon pattern but it can be used in a grid, with a little thought.
Buda-Knot would make a lovely frame for a tile and it would be fun to explore it in compositions using the Hollibaugh-style drawing behind technique we’ve been exploring in Project Pack #25.
Heidi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Buda-Knot below and her tile shows some ideas for embellishing it.
