Hello there my tangling friends, it’s good to see you and welcome you back for our easy Monday tangle.
This pretty tangle named Palais is from Japanese CZT Mika Shiohara and it’s her first on the site.
Mika introduces herself and her tangle,
I live in Matsumoto. (Geographically, it is almost in the center of Japan.) It is surrounded by mountains and full of nature. It is home to Matsumoto Castle, a historic national treasure, and the birthplace of Yayoi Kusama, a world-renowned artist.
My Zentangle® journey started three and a half years ago. One day I came across a Zentangle book at my local library. Three months later, I attended the CZT 37 seminar. I was very eager to take lessons, but there were no CZTs in the neighborhood.
This fragment was inspired by the main gate of the Palace of Versailles. Therefore, I named it Palais. The gate, called the Royal Gate, is covered with gold leaf and decorated with luxurious splendor.
It can be used as a square fragment or a line fragment !
I love tangles that use the spiral motif and even deconstructed a couple myself many years ago: Rosé, and Chianti. The latter of the two shares DNA with Palais particularly as I’ve shown it in a grid version. Mika’s “dangles” version has way more lovely options.
Mika illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Palais below and her lovely ZIA tiles demonstrate some of the ways it can be used in addition to the grid version I default to 🙂
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

November 11th – Veterans Day and Remembrance Day
This is Veterans Day in the USA, across Canada and the rest of the Commonwealth November 11th is known as Remembrance Day. As the official poster says, we honor all who served. And we can never thank them enough for their service.
“Veterans Day is a time for us to pay our respects to those who have served. For one day, we stand united in respect for our veterans. We celebrate and honor veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.”

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.
