How to draw CRAZY BLOSSOM

The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. While we’re on the subject of Spring and nature this week, today we explore the tangle Crazy Blossom by Hong Kong CZT Cat Kwan.

Interesting fact: currently there are 551 CZTs in Hong Kong — third most of any country. Curious to know about other countries? Visit the ZENTANGLES > TEACHING ZENTANGLE > LIST OF CZTS BY COUNTRY page on the top menu bar of any page on the site.

Cat’s Crazy Blossom joins her Ying and Rings tangles, all inspired by flowers. She has a wonderful ability to make simple abstract designs from them for tangles.

Crazy Blossom shares DNA with Australian CZT Michele Beauchamp’s Popsicles from many years ago.

Cat writes,

The idea of this tangle is inspired by the Peony. There are many blossom flowers in Chinese Lunar year, the flower meanings of Peony are “Wealth, good fortune, happiness, prosperity”.

I saw different type of Peony in the flower market and shopping mall, some of them were bigger then a baby’s head, so I call it “Crazy Blossom”.

There are no limits to the shapes of organic plants, so we just need to draw random circles, and make the edge of the petals random.

In Cat’s ZIA on a Renaissance Tan tile she’s included the Zentangle®-original Mooka tendrils and some threaded Pokeroot “beads”.

Recently we had the Iris-inspired tangle Ayame and together with the peony-inspired Crazy Blossom we’ve covered my two personal favorite flowers. 🙂

Cat illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Crazy Blossom below and includes a simple monotangle featuring her tangle.
