South African CZT Milde Weiss is back today to share her pretty and versatile Crosskick tangle.
When I first saw Crosskick I was reminded of Wirly Bird from Cathy Clifford, another South African tangler. Similar but different. It could also be thought of as a tangleation of the Zentangle-original Gneiss, although that might be stretching things a tad 😉
Milde explains her inspiration for Crosskick:
I enjoyed your reference to the Rugby World Cup – a game not so well known in the USA, I believe?
We watched England triumph over the All Blacks on Saturday – congratulations to England for a well-deserved victory.
The floodlights next to the field caught my attention, because I saw a pattern there …
And while the boys on the field were battling with the ball, I became engrossed in playing around with lines.
When I was done, I heard the commentator say, “crosskick”. So that is what I call this new tangle of mine.
The basic tangle can be varied by changing the length of the lines or by curving the final connecting lines.
The shading can be done in several different ways, as in the step-out example. ‘Crosskick’ can also be used as a ribbon tangle, as shown here.
On Sunday we watched a disappointing game between The Springboks and Wales, but despite that, we were victorious and will face the English team in the final game. Good luck to them!
As you might notice from my Crosskick example, even if you stop at Step 5 Crosskick is a pretty tangle and with so many options for fill and shading variations it has many different looks. It has potential for seasonal greeting cards too, don’t you think? Rather snowflake- or star-like.
Milde illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Crosskick below and includes a couple of ways to explore different fills emphasizing its 3D effect.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your comment helps motivate them to continue to share!
