Zander is one of the earliest of “official” tangle patterns, a Zentangle®-original.
The steps for Zander are included on pages 26-27 of the Beginning Zentangle booklet included in the Official Zentangle Kit, but this is the first time Zentangle HQ made a lesson public and published it online in video form.
As part of the Twelve Days of Zentangle, 2018 Edition series, several of these “old” tangles that haven’t been publicly published before are being included in the series. Naturally I’m adding each of them to TanglePatterns, thus a heads up that there will be a few more tangles coming your way than usual.
In this Day 1 video starting at 13:45 Maria’s daughter and CZT Martha Huggins (yes, that Huggins) demonstrates how to tangle Zander.
Martha points out that Zander makes a great border or ribbon-style tangle and she notes that “a very light touch helps you get those lines even closer together.” Good tip.
NOTE: For future reference, the video segment for the other tangles included in the “Twelve Days of Zentangle” series can be located on the tangle’s page on TanglePatterns. (I am updating them each day.)
Day 1 tangles included: Jetties, Flux, Zander, and Well.

Look what I found at Trader Joe’s!
This sweet little canister of Stroopwafel cookies has (had!) 8 cookies for $3. When I got the Trader Joe flyer in the mail the other day and saw Stroopwafels on their list, I was practically out the door before you could say Dutch Caramel Waffle Cookies.
Oh so yummy when the steamy heat from the coffee (French Press, the best!) melts the thin layer of caramel between the wafers. If you missed Stroopwafels when they first appeared on the site, visit Dutch CZT Anoeska Waardenburg’s Pip-in. I have her tangle to thank for finding out about Stroopwafels, a specialty of the town of Gouda.
And yes, I bought more than one tin. 🙂

a golden oldie, love this one and used it already several times!
I hope you enjoyed the stroopwafels Linda. You did it just like we did when I was a kid; warm my cookie on my moms coffee. 🙂
They are yummy, Anoeska. They’re probably even more delicious if they’re fresh but I’m very happy with these! I’m trying to ration them out so they last a few days.
Good luck on the rationing Linda! LOL Now I have to go to Trader Jos’s and pick some up. Oh boy!! And I’m glad you are able to get these videos up for future reference. I’ve used Zander before and it’s in my step-outs. I don’t remember where I found it though. But it is a nice one.
This is probably covered somewhere, but I can’t find it. Is she calling the “tile” a spinner? What is that?
Thank you.
Hi Cathleen, the “tile” is a Zentangle Spinner which is included in the Zentangle Project Pack #04. You can purchase the Project Pack from your local CZT or from the store on Zentangle.com.
Thank you.
