Recently she shared her Whalestail tangle with us and today fantasy fiction writer Jenna Black is back with another fun tangle.
Starcrossed is a tangle Jenna “stumbled on“.
She writes that Starcrossed reminds her “of a cross between Arukas and Mr. E, with a little Hollibaugh thrown in …
This pattern happened rather by accident as I was trying to come up with a new idea for a background fill. (I’ll have to go back to the drawing board on that one!)
The ‘arms’ can be a variety of shapes, and I love how the overlaps cause negative space that can be used as strings. The pattern also allows for all sorts of interesting shading practice.”
Although my example above doesn’t show it, in Jenna’s examples below you can see how Starcrossed is layered and a variety of fills and curves in the “arms” make for lots of interesting possibilities. Shading gives an embossed look to those Starcrossed arms.
Jenna illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Starcrossed and complements it with a few Zentangle®-original bits.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

Thanks! Have fun with it!
What a fun one – the possibilities are endless for any kind of space! Many thanks…
Have fun playing with it!
I love this tangle. So many possibilities. I just used it in my take on the Diva Challenge this week and used ING as the arms of a couple of Starcrossed tangles along with the original Starcrossed. So much fun!!
Ooh, I look forward to seeing it in Diva’s roundup!
I love this tangle. I need to come up with something easy but satisfying for a mixed group of students who have never done Zentangle before and some who have. This can work for both of them. Thanks.
Yay! Hope your students enjoy it!
A very nice tangle, I like it very much, thanks for sharing.
You’re welcome! Glad you like it!

Merci
I tried Starcrossed today and like it a lot. Thanks!
Hello,
I’m a newbie to the ZT world, going on 3 months now, and thanks to Miss Linda’s AWESOME site, I have discovered so many patterns to try. I came across your tangles today and realized I’d seen Bloomerz before but I didn’t remember seeing a name attached. (somewhere on YouTube) I have so much fun with that one! Found this tangle today and am already sketching possible ideas for it. Love it!!!! My skill level is still dismally lacking compared to the brilliant artists in the ZT world, but I wanted to thank you for such fun patterns that I can understand and work on. Also downloaded the sample of Dark Descendent; can’t wait to read, it looks great! Always on the lookout for new reads; thanks for sharing both creative sides of yourself! =-)
Aww, thanks so much! I hope you have fun with it. I was a beginner once, too. It’s amazing what time and passion will do for your artistic skills.
