Natti comes to us from Anita Aspfors Westin of Dalarna, Sweden, and it’s her first tangle on the site.
Natti is a nice addition to our collection of woven tangles and it can also be used as a ribbon or border tangle. In her example below, Anita shows how to use it for an overall filler tangle as well.
She writes,
Natti is a pattern inspired by Keeko and Mak-Ra-Mee you might think. And there is some truth in that. But the pattern is mostly inspired from my mothers carpet-weaving when I was a child.
She used a pattern called Rosengång very often but that is too long so I called it Natti. That’s the word we used to say goodnight and when the house was quiet and we children were put in bed she started her weaving.
Natti is one of those tangles that almost requires shading to look its best. In order to get the width “right” for me, after some experimenting (no mistakes) I ended up starting with Step 2 at the top of my space. Then I added the inside and outside strokes of Step 1 and placed the remaining strokes in the middle. I found it was easier to build a consistent “column” that way.
Anita illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Natti below with a suggested variation and she features it in a Zentangle® together with CZT Kate Ahrens’s Tropicana and a triangular version of the Zentangle-original Ambler/Emingle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity for you to enjoy.

What a versatile yet simple to draw tangle! Thanks so much for sharing! I plan to use this one!
Nice pattern, easy to draw. Especially thank you for sharing the story about the naming.
Beautiful tangle! It makes me think of rep weave (though maybe that’s just because I’m taking a class on that this summer).
I “follow” Anita on Flikr and there is only very rarely, one of her patterns that I don’t love instantly! Her tangling is wonderful, so I was thrilled to see her name on Tangle Patterns! This is another great pattern to use, in small or large spaces, so thanks Anita for sharing once again and to you Linda for popping it on here for all of us!
Anita, I love this tangle! I love Keeko and Mak-Ra-Mee so I know I will use this too. The story of its naming is so endearing. Thank you.
Nice pattern! Thanks for all your efforts in your posts Linda.
I look forward to trying his one out. Thank you 🙂
This is a very nice tangle, Surely I’m gonna use that pattern!
