How to draw WOCAR

Zentangle pattern: Wocar. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. Republishing or redistributing IN ANY FORM including pinning is prohibited under law without express permission. It’s Valentine’s Day this Sunday and while you might be anticipating another heart-related tangle, I try to be mindful of this from The Book of Zentangle:

Keep it Non-representational. Zentangle artwork is intended to be non-representational.

Zentangle’s elemental strokes are also non-representational.

We don’t teach complex elements such as hearts, stars or flowers.

Tangles are also non-representational.”

Each week I endeavor to showcase a variety of tangles and ensure that each one is sufficiently different from previous tangles to interest a wide range of tanglers and their tastes.

Today we have Wocar, a bold and interesting tangle pattern. Wocar is from Annette Grewe and it’s her first on the site.

Annette is from Hamburg, Germany, and she writes that her pattern “was inspired by a weave pattern in a rug.

Annette illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Wocar below and features it in a lovely graphical monotangle Zentangle with a rich contrast of black and white.

In her steps she shows two ways of shading Wocar, the first gives the 3D illusion of embossed “cords” and the second creates an equally interesting look. Note how curving the six parallel lines of Step 1 give a sense of movement to the finished tangle.

Happy Valentine’s Weekend!

Did you know that chocolates consumed for Valentine’s Day are calorie-free. I’m sure I read that somewhere on the internet so it must be true. 😉
