Tangle Refresher 80

Tangle Refresher! Those of you who’ve been with me for a while know Robert and I are armchair fans of several sports and this time of year is a bounty of great entertainment.

Although our favorite sport is pro basketball and our team the Miami Heat stumbled at the end two weeks ago against the San Antonio Spurs for the championship, they will be back bigger and better next season especially with an exciting draft acquisition last night of Shabazz Napier.

Since then the FIFA 2014 World Cup football (= fútbol = soccer) tournament taking place in Brazil has been providing many a happy tangling hour and we are thrilled that the USA team has fought hard to advance to the knockout Round of 16. That’s a fantastic accomplishment in itself. (Thankfully they didn’t have to play the squad with the cannibal on board.) The next few days promise compelling competition.

But best viewing of all, a week from Saturday on July 5th the Tour de France starts out in the UK. Here’s what the official site is reporting today:

With a mere twelve days to go before the Grand Départ of the Tour de France, the excitement in England surrounding the Grande Boucle is already palpable. Stretching along the whole route from Yorkshire to Cambridge, momentum is steadily building. In London and Harrogate, the four Fan Parks are busily preparing for fans of the Tour and the world of cycling to descend upon them in their droves. With a range of activities on offer and big screens set up especially for the occasion, they will be at the heart of the action from 3 to 7 July and then during the final four stages.

Recently we watched a preview program highlighting this year’s course and some of the top professional cyclist contenders and it promises to be another wonderful contest of nerve, endurance and spirit. And fabulous scenery-viewing.

This year pro cycling’s crown jewel is 21 stages covering a total distance of 3,664 kilometres (2,276.7 miles). Even if you think you aren’t interested in professional cycling it is well worth taking in a stage or two for the scenery alone especially when it gets to the mountain stages in France. Now that high definition TVs are the norm, the Tour de France is some of television’s most breathtaking viewing. And who knows, perhaps you too will become a fan of the sport if only for the duration of Le Tour each July.

And that’s it from your tangling sports reporter for now 🙂 Enjoy a beautiful weekend all! …
