Here are my off-topic ramblings that sometimes come to you with the bi-weekly refresher …
The World Cup wraps up this weekend with the final match between Germany and Argentina, hopefully it will be an exciting end to the last month of intense contests and jaw-dropping results. I refer of course to Brazil’s drubbing by Germany earlier this week that rendered the world of soccer enthusiasts quite speechless. I confess an interest in seeing Germany win the trophy, however overcoming a South American team is a very big ask. Que sera, sera.
Earlier this week the Tour de France had an absolutely amazing spectator turnout in the three stages in the UK, with an estimated excess of 5 million people lining the routes to cheer on the world’s top pro cyclists at the start of their 21-day adventure.
So far the Tour has turned out to be mostly an ordeal with frequent crashes and unfortunate withdrawals of several of the top contenders from the race. Now it’s a wide open contest and new stars get to shine over the next two weeks, including two Americans who are in contention for a top finish.
It seems to have been raining everywhere in the world over the last week, including here in South Florida where we’ve had daily deluges. All this makes for a good excuse for sports spectators to be glued to the tube.
Enjoy your weekend, whatever your pleasure! …

I live in Townsville in far North Queensland in Australia and as I write, there is the bluest of skies and glorious sunshine outside, I have a sarong on and feel just right! AND, this is our Winter! Beeootiful. All our rain and horrible cyclonic weather, happens in our Summer……it’s all backwards down here in OZ.
It’s been a bad year for cyclists in “La Tour” for sure, so many crashes, and riding on cobblestones doesn’t exactly help does it! We watch it avidly every day, but hate the crashes……
Regarding “les crashes”, Moi aussi! 😉
Hi Linda,
I live in South Australia, dubbed ‘the driest state in the driest continent’ We have been almost washed away the last couple of weeks. More rain than we get for the whole year! If you love cycling then you must come and visit in January when ‘The Tour Down Under’ is on here in S.A.
Happy Tangling
Mary
Mary, We are South Australians too (living in Queensland now, see above!) so it was great to see that there is at least one tangler in Adelaide ! Rain is serious here, we sometimes get SA’s year’s worth of rain in one DAY, in the summer during the wet season, which is when I probably spend even more time Tangling as it is too humid to venture out the door!
Happy Tangling!
Sue
Sue, it warms my heart every time I see your comments as I am South Australian and if it wasn’t for you teaching me Italic some 25 odd years ago and then encouraging me to join the Calligraphy Society, through members of which which I learnt about this site – I may never have discovered the world of Zentangle and all the joys it has brought me. Small world isn’t it. Thank you Linda for having this site to connect people across the globe. Our son now lives in Iowa City so we visit every couple of years so I can connect with the various American holiday comments as well.
Thank you Beverly……it is indeed a pleasant beginning to one’s day finding out one has made even a tiny difference in another’s life. Thank you for taking the time in passing on your thoughts to me, I did appreciate it and yes indeed, it IS a small world!
Thanks to you yet again Linda for this wonderful site and thereby also helping to make it a great beginning to a beautiful day!
