How to draw SUNFLOWER

Zentangle pattern: SunflowerSunflower is a fun grid-based tangle pattern created by Anne Marks of Australia.

I missed a bit of action in yesterday’s stage of the Tour de France while enjoying this tangle. Among the many joys of watching Le Tour each year throughout the month of July are the beautiful, iconic vistas of sunflowers. They were nowhere to be found on Stage 8 in the mountains and the trip into Switzerland, but an apropos tangle for the month nonetheless.

After a couple of practice runs with Sunflower, I found I got more consistent results by jumping from the circles in Anne’s Step 2 to the petals in Step 4, then back to Step 3 to add the curved lines opposite the petals. This is a tangle for those who particularly enjoy the inking-in process; it does require careful pen navigation around the petals.

Anne illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Sunflower here on her blog, along with a lovely completed Zentangle® tile showing several variations in size and embellishment of her tangle.
