How to draw ASSUNTA

Zentangle pattern: AssuntaToday Rick Roberts, co-founder of Zentangle®, celebrates Maria’s 60th birthday with this new official tangle pattern, Assunta.

Rick writes that he was going through some “stacks” recently and came across a napkin sketch of this pattern he’d originally seen at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in The Cloisters Museum and Gardens earlier this year. “The Cloisters is a museum dedicated to housing 12th through 15th century art and architecture. It’s a feast of patterns!”

Rick explains how this tangle pattern gets its name (Hint: it’s Maria-related) and notes that it is closely related to Cadent. In my example here, I colored in the spaces in the pattern which emphasizes its Cadent-likeness even more.

Then Rick shows how he developed the pattern steps and illustrates the steps for drawing Assunta here, along with a lovely Zentangle® featuring an embellishment of his new pattern.

Check out the tag zentangle for all of the official Zentangle® patterns with online instructions.

Happy Birthday, Maria!
