Hello again my tangling friends!
Today is the beginning of a long weekend for some of us: here in the USA Monday is Presidents’ Day and in much of Canada it’s officially Family Day. Whether or not it’s a long weekend for you, do everything you can to enjoy it!
Today’s fun tangle is from Spanish CZT Ester Ayala Pérez and Aural is her first on the site.
Ester introduces herself,
My name is Ester Ayala Pérez and I currently live in Barcelona, Catalunya (Catalonia), Spain, although I have been almost all my life in Cardona, a beautiful town with an imposing medieval castle and an amazing mountain of rock salt, also in the province of Barcelona.
I got to know Zentangle® in times of pandemic. It was a balm and a gift of well-being in those times of uncertainty and confinement.
Now Zentangle is in my life as a necessary routine that makes me feel good.
I am CZT from the CZTEU5 class of November 2021.
And her Aural tangle,
Aural has my daughter Laura’s name spelled backwards. I like the double meaning, also referring to auras, which for me are very relaxing, like being with her!
As a monotangle it’s ideal, and can be considered a grid that can contain other tangles in the space of the inner auras.
The Aural aspect changes completely if the auras are narrow or wide, because in the latter case it allows the coffering technique.
Aural isn’t quite Laura spelled backwards – that would be Arual – but we’ll have fun with this tangle just the same, and it’s the thought that counts 🙂
When you get to Steps 4 and 5, I found it helpful to repeat “over, under” then “under, over” to get the strokes in the correct orientation around the Printemps spirals. Any little thing to help focus!
Ester illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Aural below and she features it in four cool tiles with interesting embellishments. Note how the two bottom tiles take advantage of the Zentangle coffering technique Ester points out.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Ester, in my opinion, this tangle is brilliant!! Organic and therefore easy to draw, but then SO many possibilities to add and play with more lines! I can’t wait to draw it! Thank you for this wonderful tangle. 🙂

Thank you for this beautiful tangle. It looks quite challenging. I’ll have to tackle it.
