How to draw CACHE-CACHE

Hello my friends! It’s great to see you for another week of fun and creative tangles.

In addition to today being our Presidents’ Day holiday, did you know February 21st is National Sticky Bun Day? Who knew we needed a day for it!

Our easy and versatile Monday tangle is Cache-Cache by Taiwan CZT Candy Lee. Sweet name, sweet holiday 😉

This is Candy’s first tangle on the site; she introduces herself and explains why she named it Cache-Cache,

I am Candy Lee, from Taipei, Taiwan. I got into Zentangle® because of my good colleague and friend (also a CZT), she invited me to join a community Zentangle class every Wednesday. And I really enjoyed the time tangling together, and really calms me down no matter if i am having a bad day or a overwhelming week.

Cache-cache means hide and seek in French.

I named this pattern Cache-Cache because sometimes things in life tend to “hide” from us, and it is only when we take the time to “seek” or look closer and pay attention that we can discover new things 🙂

I always love grid-based tangles, to me they are the heart of the Zentangle Method™. As Rick emphasizes, the essence of pattern is repetition and grid-based tangles are all that. They aren’t an attempt to “draw something” as many submissions I see — can we say flowers? — are.

For my example of Cache-Cache, after I completed the steps I wondered what would happen if I added weight to portions of it so I went back over some of the strokes with a Micron PN, which has a wider nib (0.45mm) than our standard Micron 01 (0.25mm). I also filled in the space between some of the parallel lines shapes. Easy ways to vary the look of a tangle, as Candy says “to discover new things“.

Candy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Cache-Cache below and she features it in a cool monotangle. After you give Cache-Cache a go, have fun experimenting with rotating and mirroring the fragment and see what results you can come up with.
