Today’s Amath tangle is from Spanish CZT Mar Patricio (María del Mar Patricio González in the CZT Directory) and it’s her first on the site.
Mar introduces herself and her ribbon-style tangle,
My name is Mar Patricio and I live in a coastal town called Ribeira in the province of A Coruña, located in the northwestern of Spain.
I am a person that has always handled numbers in the workplace and at the same time I have always been moved by art.
I got to know about Zentangle in 2015 and was fascinated by what it brought me. So I thought “I want to learn this method and teach it.”
And it would be a few years later in 2021 when that thought would come true, becoming CZT®.
For my tangle Amath I was inspired by the detail of a new tableware that caught my attention while having breakfast.
Amath, it is a geometric tangle, which reminded me while I was deconstructing it, to the math classes that I like so much when I was a student.
Amath is a tangle that can be used as an edge tangle, as monotangle, it has many possibilities.
Mar shares three different ways of tangling Amath and I explored all three but for my example today I’ve used the first version.
Mar illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Amath below where she demonstrates two ways to construct it and includes a monotangle tile featuring both.
Here Mar demonstrates a third way to construct Amath and she features it in three tiles demonstrating ways to embellish it with very different results.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. I look forward to trying out and receiving more!
Welcome Stephanie, delighted you’re enjoying your first tangle email newsletter! Have fun exploring Amath …
Love these patterns. Must try! Thanks…
Thank you for a very useful looking tangle. I like that you showed it with straight outside lines and also with rounded ones. This will make a beautiful border.
The 3 ways to do it look like different tangles. Very interesting.
I am having so much fun with this tangle! Thank you!
so nice thank you
