How to draw UFO

Hi there! Here we are at the last Friday in February … where DID the last two months get to??

Today’s cool UFO tangle is from Taiwan CZT Ginny Lu, another from the archives.

And trust me, UFO looks pretty complicated but it’s really very straightforward and fun to tangle and Ginny’s steps include helpful tips to guide us.

Ginny demonstrates UFO using a base grid of triangles in her steps. In her beautiful Zentangles she shows how changing the base triangle shapes to squares or hexagons creates some fine variations to explore.

In her sample tiles Ginny adds auras, a simple detail that adds a look of complexity in this type of tangle much like it does with the Zentangle®-original Huggins.  When constructing my example I made use of tiny pen dots. First for the triangles to get them evenly sized and spaced. And then when making the rice/almond shapes between the triangles. I found it helped to place tiny dots for the ends to align them in parallel and get the desired size.
