How to draw RÉZÉDA

Greetings all, welcome back for another sweet tangle to explore.

Rézéda is from French CZT Claire Legrand-Krulic and it’s her first on the site.

Claire introduces herself and her tangle,

I am living near Paris, 35 km south from the capital in the Vallée de Chevreuse. I discovered the Zentangle Method™ at the end of 2018 and became a CZT last March! I participated in the Europe 4 seminar, a wonderful time and it fills me with gratitude!

At the end of April, I was looking for to draw a tangle that could make me think of lily of the valley because I wanted to make a small ZIA card for the wedding anniversary of my parents who got married on May the 1st, 67 years ago! … but I couldn’t find anything and finally decided to create my own pattern.

In France, May the 1st corresponds to “Labor Day” and it is a public holiday. On this day, lily of the valley is offered as lucky charm, symbol of absolute purity and joy. The lily of the valley announces arrival of sunny days.

I drew a first drawing “Muguet”. I liked it very much and I made a small first crown.

I wanted to go further because I really wanted to create a Zentangle® pattern, less figurative, which is not necessarily associated with lily of the valley, and finally Rézéda was born.

Rézéda is a tangleation of Jane Dickinson’s pattern Scrawlz, which ends in a kind of little bell. It combines very well with tangles which are built around a wavy line and can also be used as a string. I also drew the corresponding fragment.

The word Réséda designates a family of plants which can have therapeutic virtues (calming) and which can be used for tincture. I really like the color “reseda green“.

I wasn’t familiar with Reseda Green and when I was searching for a sample image to share, I learned it appears to be a popular color in the auto industry.
