Swiss CZT Hanny Waldburger is back today with her lovely Icantoo tangle, her 10th tangle on the site.
Hanny notes that Icantoo is “an easy and smaller kind of Icanthis, that I like to use a lot as a border.”
Icanthis is a Zentangle®-original tangle introduced publicly two years ago during Zentangle’s traditional December “12 Days of Zentangle” series.
Icanthis is based on the classic acanthus leaf, and as Zentangle co-founder Rick Roberts notes,
“The acanthus leaf had inspired so many architectural and pattern motifs throughout history that Maria just had to take a deconstruction crack at it.
‘S’ and ‘Curve’ join again in icanthis.”
The S and C curves are two of the classic “elemental strokes” of Zentangle,
By ‘elemental strokes’ we mean a dot, a straight(-ish) line, a curve (like a parenthesis), a reverse curve (like an ‘S’), and an orb or circle.“
Hanny’s Icantoo is a “streamlined” version of Icantoo and I’ve kept my example very simple too.
Hanny illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Icantoo here on her blog where she shows two different ways to accomplishing it.
She also demonstrates it in a beautiful Zendala as a ribbon-style border tangle. Gorgeous shading too!
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your comment helps motivate them to continue to share!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. An easy fun organic tangle. Thanks for posting. Going to play with it now!
I am so in love with Icantoo! I can’t stop drawing it everywhere – it shows up in the margins of my books, my shopping list and every scrap of paper and envelope!?
Estos enlaces incentivan mi imaginacion. Quizas no salga perfecto la primera vez, pero a su vez al dibujar y tratar una y otra vez, de los intentos salgan otros enredos más. Abre la mente y la creatividad. Gracias por compartir. Me alegran mis horas creativas. Me divierto mucho.
Linda’s edit with the help of Google Translate: These links stimulate my imagination. It may not come out perfect the first time, but at the same time when drawing and trying over and over again, other tangles come out of the attempts. Open the mind and creativity. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy my creative hours. I have a lot of fun.
