How to draw SKYESIL

Today we’re visiting the Isle of Skye as well as the oldest city in Germany and we don’t even need passports — or masks — to get there because we’re traveling through the magic of the internet 🙂

Today’s Skyesil tangle is from German tangler Helen Weber and it’s her first on the site.

Helen is from the oldest city in Germany, Trier. She introduces herself and her Skyesil tangle,

I am not a CZT (although I hope to become one at some point), but I am so grateful to the Zentangle Method™.

When I learnt about Zentangle® in 2016, I was convinced that my art teacher at school was right and that I had no talent for drawing. But all my life I wanted to be able to put something on paper that I like. Who would have thought that the Zentangle Method would teach me so wonderfully!

Skyesil is inspired by a silver chain I saw in a shop on the beautiful Scottish island of Skye (to this day I regret not having bought it).

But maybe the pattern can comfort me … above all, I would be very happy if someone would enjoy it!

I spend a lot of time learning about Skye and Trier and was so overwhelmed with cool and interesting information that I decided to let you follow those links yourselves. Trust me, it’s worth it! However, I am sharing this photo of Helen’s charming home town of Trier …

“a southwestern German city in the Moselle wine region, near the Luxembourg border. Founded by the Romans, it contains several well-preserved Roman structures like the Porta Nigra gate, the ruins of Roman baths, an amphitheater just outside the center and a stone bridge over the Moselle River” ~ Wikipedia

Helen might not recognize her tangle in my example, and you probably won’t either when you see her steps. I went way off the rails with Skyesil but I just followed my Micron and it’s where I ended up. When you examine Step 4 closely you’ll see that Skyesil is composed of four very large S-shapes emanating from the center point each with long, long tails finishing up opposite the top of the S. And when you’ve finished Step 4 you have an interesting set of shapes to fill with whatever comes to mind — or wherever your Micron takes you.

Helen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Skyesil below with her dramatic Zentangle tile featuring Skyesil as the focal point filled with the Zentangle-original Striping with Echoism, auras, and Moon Pie accents around the edges.

PSA: See Something, Say Something 2020

With just under three weeks left until the November 3rd election and early voting well underway in many states, The Lincoln Project is today beginning to expose voter intimidation and suppression throughout the country through the See Something, Say Something 2020 initiative, using the voter suppression reporting platform SeeSay2020.com.

SeeSay2020.com is an online tool that allows voters to report instances of misinformation, voting machine issues, polling place wait times, and more, with the goal to attract media and legal attention to verified, ongoing issues in real-time. This resource serves as a public map of voter suppression tactics as they’re in progress, just as voters report them. You can get to the reporting tool, and the GIS incidents map, by going to SeeSay2020.com.
