Leur is a tangle from Maryland tangler Julie Isaac and it’s her first on the site.
Julie writes,
I am a newbie to Zentangle. Last year my husband and I closed our family run mortgage company with the goal of achieving a better work-life balance.
I chose Zentangle as something to try, as a creative pursuit, with my newfound free time. After a little bit of searching online, I ended up connecting with Julie Alison, CZT, who lives near me in Maryland, and she came out to my house for an intro lesson in December 2019.
I have thrown myself in. I find it to be very relaxing and an excellent outlet for me. Time flies by when I am Tangling.
My submission of the deconstruction of Leur was a longshot, as I have limited Tangles in my repertoire, but I found it to be fun to work with.
Leur was a spontaneous creation that was inspired by a Hawaiian-looking flower sticker that is on the lid of my laptop.
Organic and floral-looking tangles, like Ying for example, are always very popular. Leur is another easy and versatile one to add to your repertoire. By flattening or exaggerating the curves in Steps 2 and 3, you can get quite different end results to the petal shapes.
Julie illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Leur below and a sample tile, “I framed it with Organic in my sample.” Julie also includes some of the many possible ideas for variations and enhancements to explore and have fun with.

Like some help with shading your Zentangles?
It's fun and easy — forget about traditional "art rules" for shading, this is Zentangle and those rules do not apply!
As we are coached in the chapter on Shading in the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, "Ignore the light source ... in Zentangle shading we do not consider the type or direction of the light source. ... More often, shading is a component of the tangle itself that we use to play with dimension, emphasis, and contrast."

Your tangle is beautiful. And, it looks like it will be fun to do and many options with it as well. Thank you for taking the time to ‘deconstruct’ it. I’m waiting for more from you. Also, maybe I’ll try developing one myself.
