How to draw OSCI

“As we speak”, our now-in-the-hundreds of Asian CZT colleagues are participating in their first CZT-only zenAgain retreat in Taipei, Taiwan, hosted by Zentangle® co-founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.

In honor of their occasion today we’ve got another cool tangle from Taiwan CZT Mina Hsiao.

Mina recently shared her Hatooringkle tangle with us and some time ago contributed Dicso.

Dicso is a continuous line tangle composed of all of the elemental strokes we use in deconstructing tangles.

Today she shares her Osci tangle, another one using the five elemental strokes in a continuous line sequence.

For my example I used the grid version of Osci Mina demonstrates in her instructions, but as you’ll see in her beautiful examples it is truly a lovely free-form organic tangle.

Mina sent along several beautiful Zendalas she created, this one features Osci and Hatooringkle and the tangle enhancer called rounding:

In this Zendala she features her two tangles using the Zentangle Project Pack #06 white-on-black and black-on-white concept together with some perfs/orbs.

Mina writes,

Osci is an interesting pattern. I created another continuous-line tangle from the five elemental strokes of a tangle.

It can be completed in one stroke and it is so easy to draw because it only uses the five elemental strokes ( O S C I . ).

This is easy pattern to draw and I hope you enjoy it.

In this Zendala Mina includes Osci with Cat-Kin and Sea Wave.

Mina became so absorbed in this tangle deconstruction that she worked out “8 methods to draw this pattern. You have two choices in Step 1 and Step 2 and when you draw step by step you can get two mirror pattern. I drew it repeatedly and method 1 and 4 are my favorites. Everyone has his habits. I offer different kinds of methods to choose.”
