Drogon is a lovely new tangle from Hungarian tangler Lily Moon who recently shared her Andante with us.
Drogon is a great tangle to practice using deliberate strokes while drawing orbs.
If your orbs have little tails in them, it’s a sure sign to slow down, focus, and be more deliberate with your Sakura Micron 01. Drogon is easy to draw and the smallest touch of shading makes it pop from the page. Drogon is an elegant cousin of CZT Carole Ohl’s Coaster.
Lily illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Drogon here on her blog. She has several beautiful tiles on the page and the very first one at the top featuring Drogon includes several Zentangle®-original tangles. Remember to click on the steps image for a larger version for your personal reference.
Update September 2019: There appears to be a technical issue with Lily’s blog so until it gets resolved here are Lily’s steps for your convenience. Kindly do not pin or post elsewhere.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." I played around with this tangle on my lunch break, and it’s an absolute joy! I adore tangles that already demonstrate depth before shading is added. Please tell me the name is a Game of Thrones reference…:)
Thank you, and yes it is name of my fave dragon’s name. 🙂
This is a beautiful tangle, and I’m looking forward to using it. Thank you, Lily, for sharing it, and thank you, too, Linda, for posting it here.
Wonderful tangle! I combined it with Meringue and Steps, and they all played beautifully together. I have no clue what “Game of Thrones” is, but at first I thought the name of the pattern was Dragon, so was thinking of medieval times. Nonetheless, it’s a great pattern that has loads of potential for combining with others, and I look forward to playing with it 🙂
Thanks 🙂 GOT is a fantasy serial and Drogon the name is my fave dragon of that story:)
Thanks for sharing Lily. I like this one. Always looking for new fun tangles to play with.
I just tried Dragon in my sketchbook and it’s going to be an interesting one to add. Thanks so much!
Great border. Thank you
Beautiful tangle Lily. Thank you for sharing. I am looking forward to using it!
Thanks for this wonderful tangle, Lily. I love how it goes together. It’s a beautiful border, but I can see it meandering around the tile also.
I’ve been using it in some of my tangles, and my more informed, up-to-date (read that as vastly younger than me) coworkers immediately recognized it for what its inspiration was!
Thank you again, Lily Moon, for the Drogon pattern.
