How to draw JURA

Hi there my tangling friends, welcome back!

Our easy Monday tangle is a pretty one from Swiss CZT Annett Ruempler and it’s her 15th tangle on the site.

Jura is composed of one of Zentangle’s elemental strokes, the S shape and in this case the reversed S, although both ways work. With tethered auras, then more auras added, a lovely ribbon is easily formed and then embellished however suits you. We last explored Annett’s Garland, also based on the S stroke.

For those not familiar with Zentangle’s elemental strokes for deconstructing a pattern to be drawn as a tangle,

“Usually the number of elemental strokes needed are 3 or less. Often, you only need one or two.

By ‘elemental strokes’ we mean a dot, a straight(-ish) line, a curve (like a parenthesis), a reverse curve (like an ‘S’), and an orb or circle.” ~ from the Zentangle blog

Annett is a woman of few words so there’s no description of how she came up with the tangle or the meaning of its name. Annett features Jura on a 3Z tile as a colorful ZIA monotangle, which I’ve borrowed so you can get an idea of its possibilities.

In doing my Jura example I hadn’t noticed Annett keeps the auras more or less even with the outside edges of the original S shapes resulting in a more even “ribbon”. So my example is a little on the curvy side 😉
